Emmeke Aarts


Emmeke Aarts is an assistant professor at Utrecht University and had a background in statistics, social sciences and neuroscience. In 2010, she completed a master (cum laude) in Methodology and Statistics for the Behavioral and Social Sciences at Utrecht University. Her subsequent PhD work at the Center for Neurogenomics and Cognitive Research (VU University Amsterdam) was aimed at improving statistical methods to optimize inference from complex neuroscience data. After a period of research at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin, she started her current position as assistant professor at the Department of Methodology and Statistics of Utrecht University.


Her primary research interests in the field of statistics are the analysis of longitudinal / long sequences of data, data science, hierarchical data and Bayesian estimation methods. Her research interests within the substantive field fall into the three broad areas of genomics, neuroscience and psychology.
